From autumn 2026, if you take bookings for overnight stays in Wales, you’ll need to register with the Welsh Revenue Authority by law.
A new visitor accommodation register is being introduced to give a clearer picture of the tourism sector across Wales.
It applies to anyone who takes bookings for overnight stays in Wales, from informal hosts to professional providers.

Do I need to register?
You'll need to register your visitor accommodation if either of the following apply:
- you take bookings for overnight stays in Wales
- any of the bookings are for 31 nights or less
Whether you host for one night a year, seasonally or year-round, you must register with the Welsh Revenue Authority by law.
This includes:
- self-catering lets (such as cottages, houses, apartments or lodges)
- your main home or spare room
- hotels, bed and breakfasts or guesthouses
- pitches for tents, touring caravans, motorhomes or campervans
- glamping (such as shepherd’s huts, yurts, pods or similar)
- static caravans or mobile homes
- hostels or bunkhouses
How to get ready for registration
Registration opens in autumn 2026. To register, you will need to provide:
- contact details, such as:
- name
- address
- phone number
- date of birth
- company number (if applicable)
- charity number (if applicable)
- trading name (if applicable)
- accommodation address
- types of accommodation you offer
- how many people can stay
- when the accommodation is usually open for bookings
