Lists of different types of place-names in Wales, and information on the List of Standardised Welsh Place-names by the Welsh Language Commissioner

These lists are published for the convenience of those who would like to see collections of different types of place-names in Wales. You can add these CSV files to termbases in translation memory systems.

The names in these lists, and their supporting data, can also be found in TermCymru.

All these resources are released under the Open Government Licence (OGL).

The List of Standardised Welsh Place-names, by the Welsh Language Commissioner

The responsibility for advising on the standard forms of Welsh place-names lies with the Welsh Language Commissioner.

Go to the Commissioner's website to get the latest version of the List, where you will also find a copy of the national guidelines for standardising place-names in Wales.

Welsh electoral ward names

A list of official names of all electoral wards of Wales, in both languages.

All 762 of these names were prescribed by the Welsh Government in a series of Electoral Arrangements Orders made in 2021.

Please note that the names in this list do not necessarily reflect the standardised forms of the names of any settlements sharing the same name, nor necessarily reflect the official forms of the names of any communities sharing the same name. For the standardised forms of the names of settlements, please refer to List of Standardised Welsh Place-names.

The columns in this CSV file are: Local authority; English name; Welsh name.
