7. Applying for student funding
Funding for students from Wales, or, in some cases, studying in Wales, is provided though Student Finance Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government.
Students can apply for grants and loans to help with living costs and tuition fees.
How do I apply
Applying for student finance can be done online through the Student Finance Wales website. Applications can be made in Welsh or English.
The online full-time undergraduate application system will usually open in the Spring. The part-time and postgraduate application system will usually open in the early Summer.
It is best to apply early to make sure funding is in place for the start of term. A prospective student does not need a confirmed place to apply for student finance and can update their application later once they know where they will be studying, or withdraw it if necessary.
For up-to-date information about when to apply, follow Student Finance Wales on X (Twitter) and Facebook or bookmark the website. Deadlines will be announced during the application period. If the application deadline is missed, students can still apply and further guidance on late applications is available from Student Finance Wales.
