5. Disabled Students’ Grants
The Disabled Student Grant is available to eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students to help cover the additional study-related costs a student may have as a direct result of a disability, long-term health condition, mental health condition or learning difficulty.
The amount a student can receive does not depend on their household income. Instead, it is based on the student’s individual support needs.
The grant can be used to help pay for:
- A non-medical personal helper
- major items of specialist equipment, and
- other disability-related study costs
Students who have additional study related travel costs because of their disability may also be able to get a separate travel allowance, which has no maximum limit.
How much funding will I get
The latest funding amounts for eligible students are published in the ‘Rates of undergraduate student support’, available via the Student Finance Wales Information Notices webpage.
How do I apply
Applications for funding should be made through Student Finance Wales.
Additional support
Universities and colleges have Disability Student Services and students should contact them for more information.
