Rename files before uploading them. Change HTML documents' URL aliases before publishing them.
Filenames and URL aliases should:
- be lower case
- have no spaces
- have no special characters
- be in English on GOV.WALES and Welsh on LLYW.CYMRU
When only an English file is published this should have a Welsh filename on LLYW.CYMRU. In GOV.WALES core this means uploading the same file twice:
- once with an English filename to GOV.WALES
- once with a Welsh filename to LLYW.CYMRU
For example, a PDF document filename becomes 'concessionary-bus-travel-local-authority-guidance.pdf' on GOV.WALES.
A HTML document's URL alias becomes 'concessionary-bus-travel-local-authority-guidance-html' on GOV.WALES.
You can use online tools to help, for example SEO Friendly URL generator tool.
If you’re working in GOV.WALES core, also follow the guidance published in the content community ‘ensure files are public only when intended’.
