What we do

The Welsh Optometric Committee advises on optometric health and the optometry profession.

WOC is a statutory advisory committee to the Welsh Government. It consists of and represents optometric professionals across primary and secondary care. The committee provides expert advice on all matters relating to eye health care in Wales.

Drawn from the three regional optical committees, its voting membership is made of a range of:

  • optometrists
  • dispensing opticians
  • contact lens opticians

WOC observers include all optical stakeholders within Wales including:

  • Optometry Wales
  • HEIW (Health Education and Improvement Wales)
  • national clinical leads
  • Head of School at Cardiff University School of Optometry
  • Welsh Government
  • General Optical Council
  • College of Optometrists
  • Royal College of Ophthalmologists
