Mark Drakeford, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Welsh Language
Welsh Government has committed to bring more bodies under the standards regime before the end of the current Senedd term. Approximately 130 bodies are currently implementing standards, and more bodies will begin implementing standards shortly, following Regulations passed by Senedd Members in March.
The next step is to bring Registered Social Landlords and Community Housing Cymru under the standards system. The proposal is to do this by introducing Welsh Language Standards Regulations for Registered Social Landlords and which will also add Community Housing Cymru to the Welsh Language Standards (No.2) Regulations 2016 before the Senedd early in 2026. Through this consultation, I want to hear from anyone with an interest in the proposals, and to hear the views of the bodies, their service users, and wider stakeholders.
My intention is to enable the public to deal with more bodies in Welsh. I look forward to receiving the views of stakeholders on the proposals set out in the consultation document and will consider them before laying a Statutory Instrument before the Senedd.
This consultation will close on 16 September 2025.
