Amber Treharne

Amber is described as an exceptional young person who is committed, enthusiastic and hard working in everything she does. 

With a tremendous passion for ensuring young people are aware of their rights, Amber volunteers for Carmarthenshire Youth Council to ensure young people’s voices are treated equally to adults, and helps to create opportunities for young people to participate in discussions that impact on their lives to bring about positive change. 

She has led on a campaign to raise awareness of period poverty with local politicians, and has now received funding to purchase boxes that will go to all youth workers, youth clubs, and youth projects across the area, helping girls who otherwise would not have attended school during that time to continue to be engaged and learning. 

Young People’s judging panel comments: Amber is hard working and enthusiastic about finding solutions to issues that affect young people in her community. Judges particularly commended her work to raise awareness of period poverty and the strength of her campaign which has had a huge local impact.
