Rayya Bocus: National Youth Advocacy Service Cymru (NYAS) Cymru
Finalist
Rayya Bocus is a volunteer with National Youth Advocacy Service Cymru (NYAS Cymru), whose work has created meaningful and lasting change for care‑experienced young people across Wales.
As a member of NYAS Cymru’s Young Person’s Advisory Group, Rayya truly stands out in the way she is able to use her own lived experiences to inform policy, influence decision‑makers, challenge inequality and ensure young people’s voices are heard where it matters most. Young people consistently describe Rayya as a source of inspiration and support.
Rayya has played a pivotal role in working alongside local authorities to transform practice, influence legislation, and ensure young people’s experiences directly shape how services are delivered. Her work has been instrumental in shaping training and resources for professionals supporting young people in care.
On behalf of NYAS Cymru, Rayya led on capturing young people's responses to the consultation on Welsh Government’s proposals for a new statutory framework for youth work. Rayya also helped to co‑author NYAS Cymru’s national manifesto ahead of the 2026 Senedd elections.
Rayya’s dedication, courage and impact make her a truly outstanding volunteer and a role model for young people across Wales.
NYAS participation worker, Kacey Schulz commented:
“Rayya is a ray of sunshine and her volunteering for NYAS Cymru is remarkable; she has dedicated her young life to making a difference for other young people. One day she wants to be the CEO of NYAS Cymru and we would love to support her to achieve this goal.”
