Urdd Gobaith Cymru
Finalist
Youth workers from Urdd Gobaith Cymru engaged a group of young people at Hawarden High School in a digital comic project. Working together in a lunchtime club, young people combined creativity, technology and language to produce a comic which brought Welsh myths and legends to life.
The project has had a powerful impact on the young people involved—building confidence, strengthening their Welsh language skills and giving them a genuine sense of ownership over their work. Young people led every stage of the process, from developing characters and storylines to shaping the final product, ensuring their voices were central throughout. For many, it has sparked a new pride in their Welsh identity and a belief in their own creative potential.
Judges considered that this project demonstrated the power of youth work to create a sense of belonging. The project had enabled young people to build a connection to Welsh culture and identity and empowered them to use Welsh outside of the classroom in an activity that build their and their peers’ confidence.
